EMLC aims to fulfill the needs of ethnic minority communities who experience difficulty in accessing legal services in Glasgow, by increasing the availability of culturally sensitive and bi-lingual legal services.
Our main aims are:
- Fighting discrimination in all its forms and promoting the strengths of diversity within a multi-cultural society.
- Providing consistently high quality professional legal services to secure access to justice, rights, services and information.
- Tackling disadvantage through developing relevant and sensitive services and tailoring our approach to secure individual involvement to empower people.
- Identifying and responding to individual needs and providing open and easily accessible services using all methods of communication.
- Improving the quality of life for people who are suffering through discrimination, exclusion and abuse.
- Providing employment and volunteering opportunities in premises within the heart of Glasgow and generating income to enhance the sustainability of the service.
- Providing an education and training programme to continually raise awareness and improve the availability and accessibility of professional legal service.
- To inform and assist clients in their dealings with the Immigration and Nationality Directorate in the UK and abroad and where possible bringing and keeping families together, obtaining refugee status or exceptional leave to remain where appropriate and asserting the client’s human rights.
- To comment on draft legislation and disseminate information on proposed changes.
