Asylum Law Project
 |
Given the dispersal of large numbers of asylum seekers to Glasgow and the surrounding areas we anticipate a significant increase in the number of people from ethnic minority backgrounds requiring legal representation in respect of their claim. The Asylum Law Project was set up within the Ethnic Minorities Law Centre as a result of funding from Glasgow City Council Asylum Consortium to achieve the following:
- Provide advice, assistance and representation to clients claiming asylum, average of 10-15 per month.
- Ensure representation of Asylum Law Project at community forums and meetings.
- Provide information to local authorities and communities on asylum process.
- Produce and distribute leaflets on the project and basic asylum process to relevant authorities, libraries, schools etc.
- Access training needs of relevant agencies and provide training on asylum law.
The Project is working to meet these requirements:
- The project is continuing to provide advice, assistance and representation to the clients of the Law Centre who are claiming asylum.
- The project is continuing to provide advice, assistance and representation to clients who have been granted asylum and are now refugees.
- The Project has a client caseload of over 200 cases
- The Project staff have established and maintain links with other relevant agencies in the area to ensure continued communication and sharing of information.
The Asylum Law Project is providing to be successful in its operations and we are working hard to capitalise on the progress made so far. |
